Clinical Internships

Odyssey Family Counseling Center offers exemplary training and development for students at reputable schools in Georgia who are working on Master’s or Ph.D. degrees in a mental health field, including Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy. In order to be considered for placement, prospective students must be enrolled in a traditional type of degree program rather than one in which most or all courses are completed online. Odyssey’s Clinical Director leads the Intern Program, and is the official liaison with the schools.

Odyssey is a highly desired and competitive internship placement site. In order to provide ample opportunity for supervision and clinical experience, Odyssey limits the number of interns to no more than 4 in an academic year. While some previous clinical experience is desirable, it is not required. Internship interviews are conducted in a group format and are facilitated by the Clinical Director and other agency supervisors. Final selections of interns are made by assessing and evaluating the capabilities and interests of each of the candidates and by matching those with the needs and culture of the agency.

Odyssey strives to assist each intern with acquiring a balance of learning opportunity and professional growth along with optimal caseload. Students are assigned clinical work with the oversight of their administrative and clinical supervisors. Type and amount of clinical work is determined by intern readiness, competency, anduse of supervision. Most interns will begin with individual therapy and group work, and add couples and families at a later point in their internship if interested.
